Comparison of genotype composition of spat (pre-disease mortality) and their between-year differences will provide an estimate of the number of parent oysters that have contributed to recruits in different Bay regions.
- Yearling and newly recruited spat from sites in the upper and lower Bay were collected in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Eight microsatellite markers were selected for genotyping.
- Preliminary results indicate that the number of parents producing a given spat set is small and variable compared to the total number of oysters in the Bay. Spat from 2007 seemed to involve more parents than from the other two years.
